You take what you've got and turn it into what you need: Building septic systems in Runashitu.

Two years ago, the community of Runashitu was excited to have toilets built in their community. But with the initial installation, there was a major missing piece for this location with a very high water table: a septic system. Under the direction of our engineer, Lynn Smith, community health promoters Jaime and Lucilla pulled a minga together (a community collaboration), and used available materials to create simple septic systems. Using former oil barrels connected with PVC pipe, the two tank system now creates a safer method for processing toilet waste.
